// Abraham’s story

In 2008, Abraham Awdiro was one year old and weighed just 4.2kg, less than some newborn babies.

Too weak to eatAbraham Awdiro after lifesaving treatment from Concern Worldwide

When Abraham’s mother brought him to us, he was so thin and small it was a wonder he was still alive. He wasn’t even able to eat the food he was offered at the clinic. Abraham was quickly transferred to one of our stabilisation centres to receive life-saving medicine. Abraham was offered life-saving treatment in one of Concern Worldwide’s nutritional centres in Ethiopia.

Abraham’s mother, Elfinesh Beleke, said:

If we hadn’t been given emergency food, Abraham would be dead now. But he’s alive and playing with me. Since Concern started treating him and giving him Plumpynut, I’m amazed at how much he’s changed.

Value of plumpynut

Plumpynut contains enough nutrients and calories to bring a child like Abraham back to a healthy weight in just six weeks. It has revolutionised the way malnourished children are treated. Before, children would be kept in treatment centres for up to two months with their mother or carer. Now, they can get the support they need without having to leave the rest of the family.
