// Claude’s story

Not too long ago, Claude was tiny, weak and malnourished. But thanks to Concern's health programme in Rwanda, he’s now healthy and putting on weight.

Pelagie Mukashyaka with her 7-month old son Claude.

Claude’s mother, Pelagie, has less than one euro a day to feed her young family. She grows beans on a plot of land near their house. But that’s only enough to give Claude and his siblings one small meal each evening – and nowhere near enough to keep them healthy and strong. At one time, Pelagie herself was so weak with hunger that she couldn’t breastfeed Claude. He soon became dangerously underweight.

Life-saving treatment

Thankfully, we found him in time and he was sent to a health centre nearby for urgent treatment. It was touch-and-go for a while. But thanks to swift action and proper care, Claude’s life was saved. And he’s now gaining weight and growing stronger all the time.

The reality is that Claude and his family are not alone: 3.5 million children die from hunger or hunger-related causes every year. By taking part in the Concern Fast, you can help save children like Claude from a lifetime of hunger. Find out how to get involved.
