At the end of June, 2007, students Emma Haverin and Leigh-Anne Pye, and Mairín Uí Cheallaigh, teacher and FAST co-ordinator at Glenamaddy Community School, Co. Galway, travelled with Concern to Haiti.
The visit offered those involved the opportunity to see the difference their dedication has made in the lives of the people of Haiti, one of the 30 countries in which Concern is working. As a teacher Mairín recognises the opportunity to raise awareness of the developing world and to contribute to Concern's work through the promotion of the FAST.
A visit to Concern projects in Haiti was a unique chance to see the tangible effects of Concern's work in the poorest and most disadvantaged areas of the country. Emma, who completed her Leaving Cert before embarking on the trip, said it was an experience she would never forget. Having seen Concern's work in practice in Haiti, it was unanimously agreed by the students and teachers who travelled that making a positive choice to help our peers around the globe is, without doubt, an effort worth the investment.
There are lot of chances to win exciting prizes for all the schools taking part in FAST 2007. Click here for details of this year's prizes.
These prizes are for secondary schools only.
